Reupholstery

Course Description

Tutor and professional upholsterer Neil Kitteridge will guide you through reupholstering your own dining chair, while teaching you professional rehupholstery techniques.  Neil will help you to learn methods of cutting, folding, tensioning and fixing the support materials, and finishing fabric. Your chair will look professionally reupholstered, and you’ll have done it!

You will need to bring a suitable chair to reupholster – it will need to have solid joints and a seat without springs. Please email us with any queries and a photo of the chair you wish to use, to make sure it’s suitable.

We will supply the webbing, filling and fixing materials, and all tools you need for the duration of the course. You can supply your own fabric (approximately 1 square meter), or you can purchase fabric from us – please get in touch to discuss the options.

Experience level

The reupholstery short course has been designed for anyone who would like to reupholster a piece of their own furniture, and build the skills you need to reupholster other pieces in the future.

Learning at the Atlantic Makers Collective

Our woodworking courses take place in our furniture workshop near Bude, North Cornwall.  You will learn professional-quality skills in a friendly space, dedicated to training, education and development.  You will also have the opportunity to meet the professional designer/makers based at the Atlantic Makers workshop, and discuss what they’re working on.

People of all ages, skill-levels and backgrounds are welcome.  Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced maker looking to develop a particular skill, there’s a course for you.

All our courses are taught by experienced and highly skilled craftspeople, so every course can be tailored to fit your needs.  That also means that if you’d like to learn something that’s not listed, we’d be happy to arrange a bespoke course to help you in your designing and making.
